HYGIENE AND SANITATION
Do we love maintain hygiene and to sanitize our surroundings too? If it is so, then, Are we really introduced to the correct meaning of hygiene? If yes, then what is the reason behind diseases, bacterial problems, viral problems? Here, you will be introduced to the terms “HYGIENE AND SANITATION”.
Hygiene basically refers to a complete cycle of practices which are performed to preserve a health. World Health Organization (WHO), has given a statement for hygiene, that is, Hygiene refers to conditions and practices that help to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases, where, personal hygiene refers to personal cleanliness of once body.
Many people thinks that cleanliness is what we called as hygiene! But, Is it the right what we co-relates with? Actually, NO! Hygiene is one of a kind of Broad term. It includes personal hygiene also, personal hygiene aims as how frequent you are to take shower, wash hands, regular trim of fingernails, etc.
Some of the regular practices of hygiene includes good habits of the society. There are some other types of hygiene also other than personal hygiene which includes
1. Medical hygiene.
Medical hygiene is related to hygiene practices that prevents or decrease the spread of diseases.
Medical hygiene practices includes:-
(I) Isolation or Quarantine that prevents you to meet with infected people and to prevent the spread of disease.
(II) Instruments which are used in surgical procedures should be sterilized.
(III) Injuries should be properly bandaged.
(IV) safe disposal of Medical wastes.
(V) Use of protective coverings such as masks, gloves, scissors, etc.
These practices we’re developed in the 19th century and by the mid 20th century.
2. Home and everyday hygiene.
Home and everyday hygiene is one of a kind of main practices as it includes
(I) Hand Washing.
(II) Respiratory Hygiene.
(III) Food hygiene.
(IV) Hygiene in Kitchen, toilets and bathrooms, even the store rooms too.
(V) Laundry hygiene in the house.
(VI) Medical hygiene at home.
(VII) The main important practices in home and everyday hygiene is the Water treatment plan of the house.
3. Culinary (food) hygiene.
(I) The food hygiene, what we intake should be clean and will be made under hygienic conditions. The practices during food preparation should be done by keeping in mind prevention of food contamination, prevents food poisoning and minimize the transmission of disease through food.
(II) Hands should be washed after touching some uncooked material or meat materials.
(III) One should not use same utensils for different food.
4. Personal service hygiene.
(I) Instruments that are used externally by the service providers such as hairdressers should be hygiened.
(II) Instruments that are used to do piercing and tattoo making should be hygiened and cleaned.
5. Sleep hygiene
Sleep is the way recommended behavioral and practices of environment that is needed for a quality sleep. So, we should have a peaceful, comfortable and dark sleep environment.
Usually we think that hygiene and sanitation, both refers to one meaning but, both have different from each other by meaning. As, we have learned above what hygiene means but, what sanitation basically means is as follows:-
Sanitation means to maintain public health conditions such as Drinking water and adequate treatment and disposal of human excreta and sewage. Preventing human excreta with contact of humans is one variety of sanitation. Sanitation system basically aims to maintain a clean environment for public and to maintain public places disease free.
There are some technologies which exists for sanitation:-
(I) community-led Total sanitation.
(II) Container-based sanitation.
(III) Ecological Sanitation.
(IV) Emergency sanitation.
(V) Environmental sanitation.
(VI) Onsite sanitation.
(VII) Sustainable Sanitation.
Sewage treatment and excreta management are the two main purpose of Sensitization.
Therefore, Hygiene and Sanitation are very important for our health and wealth, both.

But, if we look over the history of sanitation, The sanitation in the Indus Valley Civilization established in Asia is a great example of Public water supply, hygiene, sewage treatment basically that civilization is an amazing example of sanitation during The Bronze Age (3300-1300 BCE).
Sanitation in Ancient Times was quite substantial. Those systems were consisted of stone and wooden drainage to collect and remove wasted water which was coming from the populated areas. So, we have elaborated that system into the present system of sewage treatment. Treatment was planned in the manner so that wastes will be transferred into a particular shore of Sea.
